Christian Affirmations From the Bible.

How you can use God’s Words as affirmations in our everyday life

Our thoughts play a big role in the way we lead our lives. When our minds are filled with doubt and fear we approach situations, people, and opportunities with those blockages. When we don’t know who we are, or more importantly who God says that we are, we allow our past, social media, and the opinions of others to label us.

Though the term “affirmation” has been made popular by different movements, for the Christian, it isn’t our own thoughts that hold the power, it is God’s word working in our thoughts.

If you’re looking for some biblical affirmations to cling to every day, here are a few to get you started.

10 Christian Affirmations from the Bible:

He has made me a new creation

2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Every single one of us has a past. We have baggage that we carry with us throughout our lives. The issue is often that our past can become a barrier to the new life and freedom that we have in Christ. That is why our identity as a new creation in Christ is so important for us to grasp.

In Christ, the old has fallen away, it remains a part of our story but it no longer defines who we are. In Christ, we are made new and have peace with God.

He strengthens me to endure all things

Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Although living a life free from trouble and pain would be ideal, we know all too well that it just isn’t realistic. The world we live in shows the stains of sin from the fall every day.

Scripture tells us that affliction and trials are inevitable, but for the Christian, not only does He work in us through our hardships, He also strengthens us through it. In our weaknesses and trials, we are lifted up and strengthened by God as we lean into Him in those times.

He hears me when I cry out to Him

Psalm 34:17 – “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles.”

Have you ever felt as though your prayers have gone unheard to God? Have you been down in the dumps of your life and felt like you were all alone, and no one even noticed? I know that I have. The truth is that God does hear you when you cry out to Him.

It may not always feel that way because at times His answers to us are not what we expect them to be. Yet, He hears us. He sees us and He cares for us in ways we can’t always comprehend or see with our tear-filled eyes.

He thought of me before I was born

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart…”

Think about this, before your parents even considered you or knew about your existence, God thought of you. He had you in mind. If you’ve ever felt as though your life is a mistake or struggle with feelings of worthlessness this is so important to remember.

God knew you even before the world’s foundation was laid. You are one of one and He has created you on purpose, don’t ever forget that.

God will never leave me or forsake me

Joshua 1:5 – “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

People come and go in our lives. There are people you imagine would always be a part of your life and some do remain but others eventually fall away, move away or grow apart.

Even the circumstances of our lives change. Yet, despite who leaves or stays or what season of life you find yourself in, one remains the same – Christ. He not only gives you His Word, but He is faithful to His word toward you every day. You’re not alone because He will never leave you or forsake you.

He has not given me a spirit of fear

2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Many things in life are daunting. Whether that is having to choose what to study, where to move your family, who to trust, finding a job, or taking a new opportunity. Fear creeps into all of those daily decisions.

If fear ever feels as though it is crippling you, God has given you the power to stare fear in the face and remind it that He has not given you a spirit of fear but of power and a sound mind. In the midst of fear, we can turn to God and ask Him to give us peace and power to overcome our fear.

He has created me with gifts

1 Peter 4:10-11 – “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

We have all been created differently, even twins are not identical because God has made them uniquely. A part of His intentionality is the fact that He has placed gifts inside of you that come naturally and can (and should) be improved as we use them.

The gifts He has given you are meant to enrich the lives of those around you and give glory to glory to His name. You serve a purpose and it is buried inside of the gifts that He has given you, whether that be encouragement, generosity, counseling, or hosting just to name a few.

God is my guide and lights up my way

Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.”

Life can be confusing sometimes. Knowing whether to go down one path or the other does not always feel like a clear decision. There are many strange and unfamiliar paths that we will face in life but the good news is that we don’t have to walk them alone.

Jesus, who is the light of the world, promises to be our guide. His word is like a lamp to our feet and a light to our path instructing us on where to go.

He gives me peace of mind

Isaiah 26:3 – “You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.”

Would you say that your mind is often troubled by the stresses of life? Most of us would give a resounding yes to this question. We can easily find ourselves running in the endless loop of a messy mind that worsens what already feels like a stressful life.

The good news is that Jesus is the prince of peace not for His own sake but for our lives. Even when our lives feel a mess, sitting in His presence can bring us to a place of peace of mind because we trust in Him.

He gives you rest in times of weariness

Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The load of life can get heavy. There are so many things that vie for our attention, our energy, our finances, and our time. Even when we rest physically our hearts can still feel burdened.

God knows that we cannot carry our burdens on our own. He never asks us to. Instead, He calls us to find rest in Him, to lay our worries at His feet as we allow Him to refresh our souls. In Him, we find the rest that our hearts so long for.

I am a Child of God

Galatians 3:26 – “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

If this isn’t the most awesome thing

We need God’s word daily because we forget His truths daily. These affirmations are only a few of many many more truths that we can find in God’s word to speak over ourselves each day. The more we spend time in God’s word the more we know the truth and are able to remind ourselves of those truths in times of need.
