Looking for Prayer For Rest? Here are a few you can use.
The busyness of life has led many people to live in a perpetual state of exhaustion, and the term “burnt out” has only become more and more prevalent in our society.
It can be hard to find rest, whether that is physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually when the world around us is always buzzing and on the move.
For many of us, those feelings of exhaustion are especially permeated by the instant access to social media, content, ideas, and opinions that are being uploaded and offered 24/7.
The constant pressure, standards, and expectations can wear anyone out, and cause us to live in a state of never quite there but always on the go.
We know that rest is not only important, it’s essential to our functioning, health, and ability to function as people, but especially as Christians.
It is hard to show the fruit of the Spirit when we are tired and irritable.
Rest is so important, it is something that God not only did when He created the earth, but He created it especially for us.
Hebrews 4:9-10 says, “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.”
We can go to God in confidence in times of weariness, and when we feel burdened, because He calls us to come.
In Matthew 11:28, He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Psalm 91:1-2 tells us, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Many of our souls need a reminder that we can rest in who Christ is. Yes, work is good, but so is rest.
There is rest to be found in knowing that we do not find our value in the busyness of our lives or in our ability to work nonstop. We find our value in Christ, and it does not change.
When we are rested physically but also mentally and spiritually, by spending time in God’s word, in prayer and with His people, we are even better equipped to do what He has set before us.
Prayer for Rest
Prayer of Rest for an Anxious Mind
Dear God,
I am in need of the peace that You alone can bring to a restless and anxious mind.
I want to trust You with every part of my life, but my mind seems to run away with me, and lead me to stormy anxious waters, instead of Your restful waters.
I don’t want to be led by my thoughts and fears, I want to be led by Your word.
Your word gives life, and peace. I ask that You would calm the anxious thoughts that stir inside of me.
Help me to see where it is coming from.
Is it my desire to be in control, am I struggling to trust You, or am I fixating on things that You have called me to pray about, and not be anxious over?
You know my heart more than I know it myself.
Please help me to see where there’s anxious thoughts are coming from, and to surrender them up to You.
Please remove any thoughts that do not honor You, or that lead me further from Your truth.
I ask that You would help me to think of all that is noble, pure, good, lovely, right and true.
Please grant me rest for my weary mind, and peace for my anxious thoughts.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
Prayer for Good Quality of Sleep
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for another day that You have carried me through. Thank You for keeping me safe throughout the day, and for never leaving my side.
As I prepare for bed tonight, I ask that You would help me to put all anxious thoughts and heavy burdens aside.
Your word says that I should not worry about tomorrow because tomorrow will worry for itself.
Each day has its own troubles, and it is enough to deal with each day as it comes. Please help me to lay down any worries before You tonight.
I ask that You remove any distractions from my mind, and help me not to indulge in habits that would affect my sleep poorly.
I ask that You bless me with a peaceful and restful night of sleep.
Please watch over me as I sleep, and keep me from any hindering or disturbing dreams throughout the night.
May I sleep tightly in Your embrace, and peacefully in Your presence.
Help me not only to get a good amount of sleep, but to get a quality amount of sleep, so that I may be able to be diligent and equipped for what lies ahead tomorrow.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Prayer to Rest in God’s Presence
Father,
There is no greater place than to be in Your presence. In the world there is so much noise, and distractions vying for my attention, affection and my time.
Many times I give in to it, and I choose to find rest, peace or anything else to give me joy, comfort, or rest other than You.
Please forgive me for the times when I turn to other comforts instead of You, the true comforter of my soul.
Remind me that the rest that my heart and soul needs is not found out there, but right here in the quiet place with You.
Please help me to grow in my love, desire and need to be in Your presence.
I ask that You would shower me with Your love, grace, peace and most importantly rest.
My heart needs Your rest and peace Lord. Your word says that Your yoke is easy and that Your burden is light.
You call those, like me, who are weary and burdened to come to You and to find Your rest.
I ask that You bless me with Your rest, and cover me in Your arms.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Prayer for Renewed Strength When You Are Weary
Lord,
In my weakness, You are strong. Today, I lean on Your strength that is greater than my own.
Sometimes I’m not sure how I will make it through the day, and where my strength, willpower and hope will come from.
But your word reminds me that You are the one who gives me strength, and I can look to You, whom my hope comes from too.
In my weariness, I ask that You would be my strength.
I ask that You lift me out of the pit and set my feet upon a rock.
Help me not to grow weary of doing good, and to remember that in due season I will reap, if I don’t give up.
When it feels like I can’t go on, I ask that You would remind me that You are with me, and that You will not leave me or forsake me.
Please renew my strength daily, and lead me by Your Spirit.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
