Prayer For Sunday

Looking for Prayer for Sunday? Below are a few you can use.

Sundays are a beautiful reminder of God’s gift of rest to us. Jesus tells us in Mark 2:27 that the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

In other words, God created a day especially for us so that we might rest from a busy week of work. The day was made for our benefit, and its original intent is rest.

Prayer for the Week Ahead

Isaiah 40:31

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Lord,

Thank You for the week that has gone by, and the week that lies ahead.

Sometimes it is so easy to get into autopilot, and forget that it’s only through Your grace that I have made it week in and week out.

Thank You for carrying me through the ups and downs of this past week, and for allowing me to enjoy another day with You.

As I prepare for the new week, my prayer is that You would go ahead of me.

Please bless the path before me, and shine a light on any places that require guidance or clarity.

Remind me to start each day by acknowledging You, and seeking Your presence.

I know that I cannot do anything out of my own strength, but that I am wholly dependent on You.

Please help me to put aside my own understanding and trust in my own ways, help me to turn to You, and entrust all my ways unto You.

I lay down every burden that is weighing on my heart, and give up all my anxieties to You.

Please fill my heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and grant me the comfort that only You can provide.

I pray for every need that I will face this upcoming week.

I ask that You would provide for me, and my loved ones, and make a way where there seems to be no way.

Help me to be a light to those around me, and to live out Your word.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Prayer for a Restful Sabbath

Exodus 31:13-17

“Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.”

“Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it is to be put to death; those who do any work on that day must be cut off from their people.”

“For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death.”

“The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant.”

“It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.”

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for not only giving us work but for the gift of rest.

It can be hard to balance the two, and so easy to go through life feeling constantly tired and weary.

But today I am reminded of how You created not only days to work but a day to rest. My prayer is that today will be a restful day.

Please help me to surrender any anxious thoughts that hinder me from fully entering into rest.

Help me to switch off devices that cause distraction, and to take a break from any strenuous activities.

Help me not only find rest for my body through a full night’s night, but help me to get into healthier habits that will bring rest and relaxation to my body.

Remind me to take time to simply be quiet in Your presence, to worship You, and to let Your word soak into my heart.

Please help me to reframe any thoughts that I have had that do not align with Your word.

Help me to fix my eyes on Your Kingdom, and to remember the mission that You have called me to.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Prayer for Sunday Service

Hebrews 10:24-25

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,

not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Dear God,

Thank You for waking me up to a new day.

You have kept me safe through the night, and I am so grateful that I can wake up to the reality that Your mercies are new each day.

As I get ready for church, my prayer is that You would remove any distractions from my mind.

Please prepare my heart to hear the word preached, and to be encouraged, convicted and challenged. I

f there is any hardness in my heart, I ask that You would remove it, and allow the soil of my heart to be ready to receive Your word.

I pray for every person who will be serving in the church today.

Please give them the strength to serve You and others well, and fill them with Your Spirit.

Remind them that their reward comes from You, and that You see both those who serve publicly and those who serve behind the scenes.

Please help all those involved in serving to serve as Your humble servants, remembering that it is all about You.

I also pray for those who will be attending church today.

Please remove anything that is a hindrance to their worship of You.

I ask that You would reach into the hearts of all those who are present, and make them responsive.

But most of all, may You be glorified by our worship as individuals and as the bride of Christ.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Prayer for Salvation for Unbelievers

John 3:16–18

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

Father,

It is an absolute work of grace that we who once were sinners are now called children of God.

Thank You so much for sending Jesus to earth, to live the life that we couldn’t live and to die the death reserved for us.

We did nothing deserving of Your salvation, it is only because of Your kindness that we are saved.

It is only because of Your love that we have not perished.

Today I think of all of those who have not accepted Christ.

I think of the friends and family in my life who don’t know You or who have blatantly rejected You.

I think of those who will go to church for the first time in years, or those who know You only through religious practices but not through relationships.

But I also think of all those in the world.

Those who simply can’t seem to get by, those who have all the worldly possessions that one can imagine, but do not have the one thing that their soul so desperately needs.

No matter who they are, and what their lives look like, there is one thing that we all have in common.

That is that we are in need of salvation.

Our souls are in need of its Savior, and Jesus is that Savior.

My prayer is that the gospel would be brought to every unbeliever, and that they will understand the weight of their sin and the glory of Christ and His sacrifice.

May they turn from their sin, and receive Your forgiveness and the gift of eternal life.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
