In need of prayer for a good day at work? Here are a few that can help.
When the weekend has ended, it is almost certain that you’ll see a post or have thoughts about the dreaded blue Monday.
Although Monday signifies a new week of work, it doesn’t have to be blue.
Though no one can guarantee that you won’t face a frustrating issue, or feel overworked, one thing that you can do to prepare for a good day at work is to pray for one.
That may sound simple, but how often do we remember that we can include God in our work day?
I hope you’ll be encouraged with the reminder that God cares for you, which means that He also cares about the things that concern you, such as work.
Whether you’re anticipating a hectic week at work, or you are dreading the mundane tasks that lie ahead, wherever you find yourself, remember that God is with you.
When He’s with us, we have all the reasons to change the way we view what we are doing, including the work we do.
One of the verses that we can reflect on when we are preparing for work, or even during our workday is Colossians 3:23-24, which will be included in one of the prayers below!
I hope that these prayers will set you up for a good day at work, and even when the day feels a little blue, may you remember who was there with you.
Prayer for Good Day at Work
Prayer For A Good Work Day
Psalm 118:24
“The Lord has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad.”
We may not always feel like rejoicing because it is a Monday, and we all know Monday has gotten a bad rep throughout the years.
But whether it is a Monday or a Friday, it makes no difference to God because it is still the day He has made.
I love how this verse says that we can rejoice today because God made today.
It doesn’t include a specific day, which means that we can have joy and be thankful for today, whether it is a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, because God has made each day.
Enjoy your work day by adding in some fun things to look forward to during your day, like a lunch party, or a meet up with friends after work.
Father,
Thank You for making this day! I will never again experience this day, or have the time that I have now.
Help me to remember that life isn’t just about making it through each day with my head down.
Remind me that even at work, I have a reason to rejoice because You have given me a new day.
A new day that many people don’t get to experience. Thank You for showing me Your mercy through today.
I ask that You would set the tone of my heart for the workday, and that it would be one of rejoicing and gratitude.
Help me to have a good day, not because of what is happening around me, but because of what You are doing inside of my heart.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
Prayer To Exude The Fruit Of The Spirit At Work
Galatians 5:22-25
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
The bible tells us that we will be known by our fruit.
In other words, we may profess to be Christian, but what truly reveals and confirms what we profess is the fruit in our lives.
Whether you enjoy your work or not, God can still use you to be a light to those around you.
Sometimes we think that being a Christian is mostly for missionaries, but we get to be missionaries at our workplace simply by displaying the fruit of the Spirit in a world that lacks much of it.
When you show the fruit of the Spirit at work, it gives an opportunity not only for you but for others to have a pleasant day.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for saving me from my sin and my shame.
Though I am far from a finished work, I know that You are working in me, and will complete the work that You started in me.
I ask that You would help me not to be a closet Christian at work, but rather to share You not only through my speech but through my deeds.
Help me to approach my workday intentionally. When there is an opportunity to show patience, kindness, forgiveness, forbearance, please strengthen me through Your Holy Spirit to show it.
Please let Your Spirit lead me through this day, and bless the day and all those who I will come across at work today.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Prayer To Be Diligent At Work
Ecclesiastes 9:10
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”
Scripture is not silent on the topic of laziness, and slothfulness.
There are a few blunt scriptures about laziness, and though we may not always think of it this way, the reality is that laziness is a sin that often leads to other sins.
When it comes to our work, it may be tempting to give into laziness or to do a half-decent job. Scripture tells us that we should be diligent in the work that we do.
At the end of the day, we serve a God who created work to be something good.
But we must also acknowledge the effects of the fall on our work, and lean on God to fight against slothfulness.
Lord,
I confess there are days when all I want to do is the bare minimum.
There are days when I feel exhausted, frustrated and simply lazy.
Please help me not to get comfortable in doing the bare minimum, and remind me that in whatever I am doing, I am ultimately representing You.
In those times when I feel demotivated or like I have no energy, I ask that You would carry me in Your arms.
Please strengthen me, and encourage me. Help me to fix my eyes on You throughout my workday, and to fight off the temptation to be lazy.
Help me to be diligent in my tasks, and to do it will all my might.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Prayer to Remember You Are Ultimately Working for God
Colossians 3:23-24
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
When we don’t feel as though someone is seeing us, it is easy for us to try to cut corners, to work but complain as we do it, or to simply not put our best effort in.
This is especially true when it comes to work. As Christians, the truth is that God always sees us, and even if we are saying nothing, He can tell when our hearts are muttering complaints.
Though work may not always feel like a delight, we as Christians can find encouragement through remembering that what we do is not really about the company, it is first and foremost about God.
If God has entrusted you with a job, it is so you can work at it heartily, knowing that You are ultimately working for Him.
And even if your job may seem thankless at times, when you remember that you are working for Him, you can find hope that your reward will come from Him too.
Lord,
Thank You for blessing me with a job.
I know it is not always that I say thank You, but I am reminded today that having a job is truly a blessing.
Thank You for the skills that You have given me, and this for the opportunity to be a reflection of You to my coworkers and the people that I get to see daily.
I ask that You would go with me through this workday and help me to have a great day.
When I feel frustrated or have a conflict with someone, help me to be Christlike, and to be a peacemaker.
Whatever I have to do today, even for the most mundane task, I ask that You would help me to do it heartily.
When I feel discouraged, remind me that I am ultimately working for You and that my reward is found in You.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
I truly hope that you’ll experience a good day at work! May it be good not because everything went as planned, but because God is with you and will see you through it.
