Prayer to overcome temptations

1 Corinthians 10:13

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

Lord,

Thank You for your mercies that are new each morning.

Thank You for Your forgiveness that covers my sin, and Your love that changes my heart and my desires.

You know the sin struggles that I face every day, the fight between doing what my flesh wants, and following the leading and conviction of Your Holy Spirit.

I know today comes with its own sets of temptations that lure and entice the desires of my flesh.

It is so easy to give in, and to think of the moment and not of its implications. But my sin always promises more than it delivers.

Please help me to remember that sin’s end is death and destruction, not life and peace.

As I go through this day, I ask that You would help me to fix my eyes on You, and to taste and see that You are good, and that no sin of mine is comparable to Your presence.

Please help me to grow in discipline, patience, self-control, and obedience to Your word.

When temptation comes, help me to flee from it, and not to flirt with it.

Please provide the way out when temptation arises, and help me to not put myself in compromising situations.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Prayer to Hold Onto God’s Promises

Romans 8:28

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Father,

Today I am reminded that You are a God who is faithful to Your word. Even when I am unfaithful, You remain faithful, because You cannot deny Yourself.

It is astonishing that I get to know You and have a personal relationship with You, the Lord of life.

Sometimes I can allow circumstances to get to me, and feel as though there is no hope, or purpose, forgetting that You have already won the victory, and that I share in that truth.

Today I want to take hold of Your promises, and not allow my human reasoning to steer me.

I want to be led by Your word and held up by Your promises. Please help me to turn to Your word, and to hide Your word in my heart.

Even when times are tough, I ask that You would remind me of Your love that endures forever, and Your promises that are sure in Christ.

When I feel defeated or discouraged, remind me that You are working all things together for my good.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Prayer To Be Led By the Holy Spirit

John 14:26

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Dear Lord,

Thank You for not leaving us on our own, but for sending Your Holy Spirit as our guide and comforter.

As I set out to start this day, I know I can either choose to be led by my flesh, or feelings or by Your Spirit.

I don’t have the ability to live out Your words according to my own might, but through Your Holy Spirit You make it possible.

I ask that You would fill me with Your Spirit, and help me to grow in the fruit of the Spirit.

Help me to grow in joy, patience, peace, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness, self-control, and long suffering .

I ask that Your Holy Spirit would make the scriptures clear to me, and help me to apply Your word to my heart, mind and life.

Please help me to seek Your will, and to practice Your word throughout the day. Help me to rely on Your Spirit, and to listen as He leads.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer To Be Filled With Joy

Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Dear God,

Thank you for a new day, and for the opportunity to come to You with confidence and trust.

As I get ready for this day, I ask that You would go before me and make the way clear ahead of me.

I know there are plenty of things that can rob me of my joy, and hinder me from experiencing the joy of the Lord.

But today, I pray against everything that may come my way and threaten to steal my joy.

No matter what the day brings, I ask that You fill me with the joy of Your Spirit. Help me to find my joy in Your enduring love.

Keep me from placing my joy in the world and the ever changing circumstances of life.

May the joy of the Lord be my strength.

Help me to spread that joy to those who are without, and to be a witness to the joy that You bring to all those who trust in Your name.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

A Prayer for God’s grace

2 Peter 3:18

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”

Heavenly Father,

I am so blessed to know and experience Your grace each and every day.

Thank You so much for the free gift of salvation, that You have given us through Christ our Lord.

Thank You for allowing Your word to take root in my heart, and removing my heart of stone, and replacing it with a heart of flesh.

I ask that You would help me to grow in grace, and mature in my faith. Help me to pick up my cross daily and to follow You.

Help me not only to profess You with my words but to do so with my life.

I ask that You would grant me the grace to follow You daily, and to turn to You instead of the world for guidance.

Please help me to grow in discipline and in my love and hunger for Your word. May Your word be hidden in my heart, and evident in my life.

Help me to grow in the knowledge of my Savior, Jesus and to grow in His likeness, that He may receive all the glory and honor due to Him.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
