The full armor of God Prayer is one we all need daily. Although we may not be aware of it, every day, we as Christians are in the middle of a battlefield.
No, we’re not physically ambushed, but we have big targets on our backs in the spiritual battle that we face.
When we first give our lives to Christ, the enemy sets us as his target.

One of his best devices is for us to be ignorant of the war around us.
There’s a popular quote that says “The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he did not exist.”
When we are ignorant of the spiritual battle around us, we let our walls down and become an open target for the enemy.
So it is first and foremost important to be aware that you are in a real battle. But our focus today isn’t on the enemy’s schemes. It is on how God equips us in battle.
Why We Need To Pray The Armor Of God Prayer
Can you picture for a moment, a soldier going to battle without a shield, a sword or a breastplate?
He becomes an open target for his enemy, and he is much likelier to squirm in the face of an attack than to stand his ground.
Why is that? Because he isn’t prepared and protected for the battle.
In the same way, when we forget that we are in a battle, we are like the soldier who stands in the middle of the war zone, completely unprotected and vulnerable.
But God does not only call our attention to the war, He clothes us with His armor, which helps us stand firm in battle.
We find the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-17.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Each part of the armor serves a different purpose to protect us and alert us in our day-to-day battles.
Though we can’t physically put the armor on, we can put it on through diligent prayer as we start our day.
How To Pray The Armor Of God
If you’ve never prayed for the armor of God, or want to know the roles of the different parts of the armor of God, I hope that these armor of God prayers will encourage you and help you equip yourself for spiritual warfare.
Armor of God Prayers
Right before we go into the different parts of the armor of God, Paul calls us to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
He goes on to tell us how we can do this – by putting on the full armor of God.
What is the reason for this armor?
So we can stand against the devil’s schemes, instead of falling for it.
1. The Belt of Truth – Ephesians 6:14
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist..”
We know that one of the enemy’s oldest tricks in the book is lying or twisting the truth.
That is why the first piece of the armor is called the belt of truth.
We all experience times of doubt, or believe things that are true.
The enemy can plant seeds in our minds that are contrary to the truth.
He may convince you that you are too far off for God to redeem you, or that your life is of no worth.
But God shows us in his some Biblical affirmations that is not true!
He may twist the truth ever so slightly, or try to hook you through full blown lies.
The only way for us to combat this is through putting on the belt of truth.
The belt is what holds everything together.
God’s word is what holds us together and helps us fight against the lies of the enemy.
When we are not devoted to reading, studying and living out God’s word, we cannot differentiate between the lies of the enemy and the truth of God.
God shares with us who we are in these I Am Affirmations From the Bible.
Pray for the belt of truth in your everyday life, and get into His word, to fight off the lies of the enemy.
Father,
Thank You for Your word that is true. It never fails and will never pass away even when the world does.
I am thankful that I have the opportunity to read Your word daily, and to get to know You deeper.
Please create in me a greater desire to know Your word and to live in the light of Your truth.
Enfold me in the belt of truth, so that I can stand against the lies of the enemy.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. The Breastplate of Righteousness – Ephesians 6:14
“…with the breastplate of righteousness in place…”
In war, the breastplate is one of the most important parts of the armor that a soldier can wear because it protects his vital organs and most importantly, his heart.
It is our very hearts that Christ has made new and through which He changes us.
Righteousness means to be right with God, or to be justified.
Jesus’ finished work on the cross has brought us into right standing with God.
This means that we are no longer His enemies.
He has called us His friends.
No matter how long you’ve been a Christian, the enemy loves to accuse, and condemn.
When we sin, it is his voice that tells us we are condemned before God.
But God’s word says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.
We can put on the breastplate of righteousness by reminding ourselves of the work that Christ has done on our behalf.
Because of that work, God now sees us as righteous, and we do not have to run away from Him in shame and guilt.
Pray for the breastplate of righteousness in your life, to guard your heart from condemnation and instead live in the forgiveness and redemption of Christ, our Lord.
Lord,
Thank You for sending Jesus.
Jesus, thank You that You came.
Thank You for redeeming me from my hopeless, sin-stained life, and giving me a new life.
I know for as long as I am in this body, I will sin.
But You call me not to make a practice of sin.
Please help me to live according to Your Spirit, and not my flesh. Remind me that I can come to You to confess my sin and to receive Your forgiveness.
Place Your breastplate of righteousness over my heart, and protect it from any feelings of condemnation.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace – Ephesians 6:15
“and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”
Though shoes may not sound like the most essential part of an armor, it plays a major role.
Imagine running barefoot on a battlefield strewn with rocks and stray arrows and equipment.
If you constantly have to look down to see where you’re stepping, your eyes are taken off the real goal.
The gospel of peace is the Good News of what Christ has done.
When we are fitted with the shoes of the Gospel of peace, we are equipped to take this Gospel to others who are in need of it.
Our call as Christians isn’t only to stand firm against the enemy. It is to spread the Gospel during the battle.
Pray for your feet to be fitted with the Gospel of peace, asking that God would give you boldness to share the word with those you meet along the journey.
Heavenly Father,
The fact that You have called sinners, like me, to Yourself is indeed good news.
Thank You for the gift of the Gospel.
Thank You for saving me, and calling me Your own.
Please help me to walk in the shoes of the Gospel of peace.
Grant me the boldness and words to say to those who I meet during the day.
May they live in peace with You and those around them.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
4. The Shield of Faith – Ephesians 6:16
“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. “
The best defense in a battle is a shield.
It is like an extra measure of safety on top of the armor that you are wearing.
Scripture describes the “ammo” of the enemy as flaming arrows.
The shield that God calls us to put on each day is our faith.
Faith is a confidence in God and in His word.
When the enemy targets his flaming arrows at you, faith is what protects you and serves as a shield against his attacks.
When we have faith, we know that God has already overcome the world, and the enemy.
We not only cover ourselves behind a shield.
We cover ourselves behind God, who is our shield.
Pray that He will help you to grow in your faith and to withstand the enemy’s flaming darts by trusting in Him.
Lord,
My faith is only credited to You.
Thank You for opening up the eyes of my heart to see You as You are, and allowing me to live in the light of Your grace.
Please help me to protect myself each day by taking up the shield of faith.
Without faith it is impossible to please You.
Please increase my faith, and make it unwavering in the face of the enemy’s flaming darts.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. The Helmet of Salvation – Ephesians 6:17
“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
The helmet is a very important part of any armor.
Take for instance, a football player.
They are in a battle of their own and often collide with other players or even the ground.
Without a helmet they can injure serious injuries, and the same applies to a soldier on the battlefield.
The mind is a massive battlefield for Christians.
It is also the enemy’s favorite playground.
Wearing the helmet of salvation helps us to think of the things of God and of heaven, instead of the things of the flesh and of this world.
Because it is the helmet of salvation, it also gives us assurance of our faith and eternal life in Christ.
Therefore, we can live in the light of eternity and the future hope that awaits us in Christ.
Pray for God to place His helmet of salvation on Your head, and remind you of the security you have in Christ.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the finished work of Christ on the cross.
You have given me Your Holy Spirit as a seal, and I know that I will one day be with You in eternity.
Whenever I become short-sighted or the enemy creates doubt in my mind, please remind me of this salvation assurance that I have in You.
Help me to put my mind on the things that are above and to take them off of the things of the earth.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
6. The Sword of the Spirit – Ephesians 6:17
“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Now we get to the offensive part of the armor – our sword.
In battle soldiers do not merely stand with a shield to protect themselves.
They also hit back with an effective weapon.
Our weapon in battle is the word of God.
The Spirit is the one who reminds us of God’s truth when we need it to fight against the lies and attacks of the enemy.
When we delight in the word of God, His Spirit allows the words to come alive in our hearts and strengthen our faith.
Pray that You will fight against the attacks of the enemy daily by meditating on His word and reminding yourself of the truth each day.
Father,
Your word is active and alive, and it convicts, challenges and changes us.
Thank You for giving me access to the Bible.
Help me to grow in the knowledge of Your word, and to live my life according to it.
I pray that Your Holy Spirit will bring to remembrance the scriptures when I need them most. In Jesus’ name, amen.
The armor of God Prayer is an important part of our everyday life as Christ. I challenge you to pray for God to clothe you in each part of the armor as you begin your day, and see how He equips you to fight the battle.
